Please welcome Shawn Mosch as the newest CricutDIVA

Shawn is the mother of the family that created MyCutSearch.com, a searchable database of images found on Cricut cartridges which in my opinion makes her one of the biggest celebrities in the Cricut community there is. If you don’t already use her families site you absolutely must go check it out and you will never again be searching through handbook after handbook manually again. Shawn also has her own personal crafting blog at CraftyChicsBlog that you should go over and leave her a little love.

Shawn

Hi! My name is Shawn, and I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, sewing was my main craft. I have made everything from doll clothes to my own wedding dress. I love the feeling of accomplishment you get when you can turn a pile of supplies into a finished project. I did not do much paper crafting until I was in my mid-30′s, and my first project was a scrapbook for a trip our family took to Walt Disney World. After that I was hooked!  Now scrapbooking and card making are my two main crafts.

Would you like to be the next new CricutDIVA? We’d love to see you apply to join our design team.

Goodbye, thank you and Design Team Call

We look forward to welcoming some new CricutDIVAs to the team!

Will one of them be you??

Die Cut Darla, your CricutDIVA blog admin here with you today.

Today I am posting because we are saying goodbye to 3 wonderful CricutDIVAs and looking for some new members to be a part of the Cricut-DIVA design team!!

You may have noticed that it’s been quiet here lately and that is because our original design team’s term ended at the end of September. I am happy to tell you that most are going to stay with us for another term. Three of our wonderful design team members however are saying farewell.

Beth, Lori and Sierra you will be greatly missed and I wish you the absolute best of luck for your future. You are an absolute pleasure to work with and you are welcome to guest design here or re-join the cricut-DIVA team any time in the future.

I would also like to take a moment to publically thank the entire cricut-DIVA design team for everything they have done and continue to do. They are one of the most absolutely wonderful, talented, kind-hearted, fabulous group of ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart!

Now, onto the design team call…..

Expectations:

Design Team members are expected to post once a month for a 6 month term. At the end of the term we can discuss whether you’d like to stay on or not.

Projects for posts MUST use the cricut and have an explanation of how it was made. You can look through past posts here to get a general idea of what CricutDIVA posts look like.

We use a calendar in yahoo for scheduling who posts when so members are asked to have a yahoo account (if you don’t have one you can open one).

The blog is hosted on wordpress so it is a given that all design team members must learn to use wordpress. Don’t let this scare you though. Most of our current design team had never used wordpress before and they all do just fine. I will personally help any member through any techology issues they may have with the postings and getting everything set up and familiarized.

We also use a facebook group for design team members to use as a forum of communication amongst us so a facebook account is necessary. If you are not someone who has a facebook account and don’t want a personal facebook  account it would be perfectly acceptable to open a ‘fake’ account with an alias (so long as we know it’s you) to access this private group for the design team.

How to apply:

To apply to be a CricutDIVA please use the contact form below to tell us about yourself and let us know you’re interested in applying.

If we think you might be a good fit for our team we will reply within a week of your application asking you to send a ‘mock’ post complete with photos of a never before seen project.

We will then go over all the applications and notify those chosen for the design team.

If accepted onto the design team your mock post can be used as your first post on the blog, or if you are not chosen for the design team you can post away on your personal blog once the accepted candidates names have been released. We will in no way take or use your submission without your permission to do so and your sending it in will be used solely for the purpose of application.

Please submit your application by filling in the form below. Be sure to tell us anything you think we should know about you in consideration for the team.

Design Team Applications close as of October 31, 2013 at midnight. You may still take a chance and apply after this date however if there are a large number of applicants received prior, late applicants will not be reviewed.

I am leaving the call open-ended for the moment as I haven’t 100% decided how many new CricutDIVAs we will accept, this will solely depend on the the number of applicants and how well of a fit the applicants are.

Happy Birthday!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it’s “Sentimental Saturday” here at CricutDiva and I decided to make a birthday gift “check” holder!  Yes, you heard me correctly, it’s not a gift “card” holder, it’s for checks!  Believe it or not, there are still people out there who still send checks to their family and friends instead of gift cards to celebrate birthdays, graduations, etc.  Soooo, I give to you my very first Birthday Check Gift Holder!

2013 - June 22 - Sentimental Saturday - Happy Birthday

Front

2013 - June 22 - Sentimental Saturday - Happy Birthday 2

Inside

This card measures 4″ x 9″.  Now I know that’s not a standard card size BUT I wanted to make one big enough that you could insert your check (or money order or whatever) in it without folding it up. Also, I found a set of 25 envelopes at that measure 4 1/4″ x 9 1/2″ for only $2!!  That means the envelopes were only 8 cents each! They were in the Clearance section where I just LOVE to shop in – I am always finding great deals like this.

For the front of the card, I cut my designer paper (Later Sk8r from Close to My Heart) at 3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ so that I would have a nice margin around the outside.  I then took the zip strip at the top of the paper and cut it to size.  It measures 1/2″ and then I cut it down from 12″ to 9″ to fit across the length of my card.

I cut the sentiment mattes using my Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.  You can find this image on page 65, E5, < Rctngle8 >. I cute 3 sets – one each at 2 1/4″, 2 1/2″, and 2 3/4″. I used White Daisy, Pear, and Lagoon cardstock for my papers.  The frame that I stamped in Lagoon ink came from a stamp set called “Frame It Up“.  The sentiment “Happy Birthday” comes from the “Perfect Fit – Birthday” stamp set. The sentiment was originally one long line but I cut the sentiment into 2 words and that way I could stack the two words on top of each other.  I love that about acrylic stamp sets! What I love about both of these stamp sets is that they both coordinate with the Art Philosophy cartridge which means NO … MORE … FUSSY … CUTTING for this crafter!

For the inside of the card, I cut another piece of Lagoon cardstock at 2″ x 9″ so that the background would not be just a plain white surface.  For the bottom pocket, I cut a piece of White Daisy cardstock at 2 1/2″ x 9″ and adhered it using Scor-Pal tape. I only put the tape on the bottom and sides so that the top would be open. I then a cut a piece of the designer paper at 2″ x 8 1/2″.

The three sentiments come from the Perfect Fit – Birthday stamp set referenced above.  I cut the circles using the Art Philosophy:  page 21, A1, < Circle > cut at 1 1/4″ and 1 1/2″ using White Daisy and Lagoon cardstock.

Well, I guess that’s all I have for you — this was really easy to make once I figured out the measurements!

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.  You can also visit me at my personal blog – Love 2 Create – by clicking here.

Have a wonderfully crafty day!

Please welcome our latest designers to the team!!!

Liz Mullen

liz mullen

My name is Liz Mullen and I’m so excited to be joining the CricutDIVA Design Team!! I currently live in Valencia, California which is just north of Los Angeles. I live with my husband, Rick, and our youngest daughter, Kennedy (17).  Our oldest daughter, Mckenzie (20), currently lives in Oakland, California.

I have always been an artsy person and love to try new things. My favorites have included scrapbooking, card making, invitations, party favors, party decorations, and stamping. I have been paper crafting for as long as I can remember, but 19 years ago, I came across Creative Memories and fell in love with the idea of preserving my family’s history. The discovery of CM is what got me into traditional scrapbooking, a passion which I got many of my friends into as well. Stamping and card making came naturally to me after that.

I have my own studio in my home that houses all my crafting necessities! I house all my Cricuts in this room as well.  My first Cricut was the original one and I thought it was the greatest thing ever invented! When I got the Expression, I didn’t think it could get any better! I was given an opportunity to teach about Cricuts at my local scrapbook store at about the same time as I got the Expression. I really enjoyed helping everyone pull out their Cricuts and realize that they aren’t scary machines!  My favorite machine would have to be the Anniversary Expression 2. I also have the Gypsy, but I don’t use it as often as I use Cricut Craft Room.

In the past two years, I have gotten heavily involved in mixed media and enjoy making home decor, especially around the holidays. Handmade gifts for family and friends, sewing, and cooking are some of my favorite hobbies.  I enjoy incorporating all my creativity into projects!

I’m so grateful for this opportunity. I hope to create and share with you in a way that inspires you to create with love. I invite you to visit and leave me a comment on my blog.

I guess I really should introduce myself. 🙂

I am now the new owner/admin for the CricutDIVA blog. Don’t panic, I don’t plan to change anything as I just love how this blog flows currently. The plan is to keep providing great cricut related content via our fabulous design team.

I am a stay at home mother of 2 fabulous children, Michael (age 4) and Samantha (almost 2)  in Nova Scotia, Canada. We share a house with my husbands grandfather and grandfathers wife for 6 months of the year (they spend the other 6 in Florida). My husband is in the Canadian Navy and we are very proud of him.

I own many different electronic die cutters my Cricut ones include the Cricut Expression and Cricut Expression 2 along with a gypsy and Design Studio as well (although my own personal preference is the Cricut Craft Room). I also own a KNK Groove, Graphtec CraftRobo and Silhouette Cameo. I teach classes locally on the Cricut and all the accessories and programs (Design Studio and Cricut Craft Room) as well as some on a few non-cricut software programs for the other cutter owners. You will often find me on the yahoo message boards and facebook groups in just about every die-cutter related group there is as I love to learn and share.

I am also a Close To My Heart independent consultant. I signed up when they first came out with their Cricut cartridges and I ordered one as I just fell in love with the products myself. In addition, I sell my various handcrafts and I do freelance graphic design and business promotional materials including sign vinyl, pamphlets, brochures, screen printed shirts, etc… basically if I can craft it I will do it.

I have been crafting my whole life and since my babysitter growing up was a professional artist who gave me crafting lessons as part of my babysitting every day in various different crafting mediums including origami, paper making, stamp making, screen printing, card making, flower pressing and much much more I was able to really learn all sorts of skills and techniques and apply them to pretty much anything.

You can also find me on my personal blog “Caution: Crafting is Contagious“, Weekly Sketch Challenge blog “Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge“, YouTube channel (where I post tutorials occasionally), Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook.

I look forward to working with this fabulous group of ladies designing here to help provide you with lots of great Cricut inspiration.

I also want to take this opportunity to ask you the readers if there is anything specific you’d like to see here on this blog? Always looking for ideas! 🙂

New Designer

Lucy Kelleher

Hello! My name is Lucy Kelleher and I am so excited to be a part of the CricutDIVA Design Team!

I live in Southern California with my amazing husband of 12 years. We met while training in Aikido, a Japanese martial art almost 20 years ago. We now own our own Aikido dojo (school) where I teach our children’s classes. I became a trial paralegal right out of school but decided to change careers about 8 years ago. I went back to school and became a teacher.  After 5 years of teaching 3rd and 4th grade students, I am now a full-time Close to My Heart consultant and LOVING it! I have traded in teaching my little guys for teaching and creating memories with my “big” kids.

I have to admit that I was never particularly crafty growing up. I always wanted it to be “perfect” the first time I made something. Hardly a stress-free activity! I began crafting over 12 years ago when I saw a mother of one of my students working on cards in her car while waiting for her sons to come out. She invited me to a card workshop and I have been absolutely hooked every since. I have been with Close to My Heart for a little over 7 years now and am always amazed at all the new products they come up with every year.

I have only been in the blogging world for a couple of years but love posting projects and ideas and getting feedback from others. I am a firm believer that there are really no “mistakes” in creating. ANYTHING can be fixed! Absolutely anything!

I have gone through many different crafty phases throughout my crafty career — right now I’m on a big card kick!  I love to make 3 x 3 mini cards. I still scrapbook but not as often as I used to, although I am working on a mini (6 x 6) album right now.  I love to alter items — notebooks, frames, boxes, etc.  I have done a number of home decor pieces in the last couple of months as well, including banners, wall art, coasters and centerpieces.

I own a Sizzix SideKick, BigShot, and Texture Boutique, BUT my most favorite and prized crafting machine is my Cricut Expression. In fact … I own 2 of them!  I use them constantly. They are my “go to” crafty products. I have lost count of how many Cricut cartridges I have, but I know they number under 30. I don’t that’s too bad.

Melody Lane

My name is Melody Lane. I have 3 crafty rooms in my home, a sewing room, an art (painting) room and my paper/clay craft room.

I live in Kankakee, IL — an hour south of Chicago.

I got started in paper crafting when I bought my first Cricut at JoAnns because I was quilting and bought it to cut fabric. I no longer sew much because I found I enjoy paper crafting more. I do not scrapbook, but enjoy making cards and decor items. I love making 3d items with my Cricut.

I have 4 Cricuts, including the original Cricut, the Cricut Expression 2, the Mini and the Cricut Cake, that I now use to cut polymer clay.

Daphne Shreiber

I am very happy to be joining the Cricut Diva Design Team. I am excited to be sharing all the wonderful things I do with my Cricut Expressions machine with all of you.

I live in central Florida with my two sons and wonderful boyfriend. We recently moved to the home we are now in. I made sure that I would have a craft room when we moved. I have spent the past couple of months reorganizing and purging so I could fit into my nice new space. I will be sharing photos of my new space on my blog during the month of May. I homeschooled my children for 15 years. But my youngest decided he wanted to go to public school when we moved. He is now in high school and doing FANTASTIC! He is in honors classes and getting all A’s and B’s.

I have been crafting all my life. My mother was into dabbling in all kinds of crafts, so I come by it genetically! I invented and manufactured a line of crafting organizational products named ScrapCessories. During these years, I got involved in several Design Teams and fell in love with several wonderful products. I was involved with Above Rubies Studio during her early years and was included on the 123 Cards and A to Z Imagine DVDs.

Two years ago my life went through a major change and I had no inspiration to do any crafting. Then a year ago I met the wonderful man that I now live with. He has brought back to my life things I had pushed aside in the 25 years before him. We get out and kayak, hike and enjoy nature. My boyfriend is an amazing amateur photographer. I enjoy making layouts and wall decor using his amazing photography. My new life has re-inspired me to get back into all the crafting that I love to do! I hope I will inspire you in some way to get out there, enjoy life and get crafty!

Brenda Halstead

brenda

My name is Brenda Halstead and I live in Toledo, Ohio.  I have two wonderful children – a 24 year old daughter Beth and a 19 year old son Andy. I also have two wonderful grandsons – Ethan who is 5 and Benjamin who is 8 months old. I also have a granddaughter due August 3rd. I am employed full-time as an Office Manager for an insurance consulting firm.

I got started in scrapbooking in August 2000 after attending a Creative Memories class. I bought the biggest kit available and have been hooked ever since! My scrapbooking style sure has evolved since then, especially after the Cricut came into my life. A couple of years ago I was introduced to Close To My Heart, and I liked it so much I became an Independent Consultant.

My favorite paper crafting projects are scrapbook layouts, cards and invitations. I used to be intimated by the entire card-making process, but once I started, I wasn’t able to stop!

I own a personal Cricut, Cricut Expression, Cricut Expression 2: Anniversary Edition, Gypsy and Cuttlebug, as well as a Cricut Cake, Yudu, Yudu Card Maker and YourStory (which have all been sitting in their boxes waiting for me to learn to use them).

I used to do a lot of cross stitching and crocheting, but since scrapbooking came in my life, they have been put on the back burner. I also enjoy reading, cooking and baking.

I’m excited to be part of the CricutDIVA Design Team!

Michele Green

MGreen

Hello!  My name is Michele Green from and I am very excited to be joining the CricutDIVAs!  I am married and have two daughters, ages 10 and 4.  Our family is an inseparable unit who even does the boring stuff together, like grocery shopping.  We live in Eastern Wisconsin and enjoy many outdoor activities, such as fishing, four-wheeling, softball, soccer and more.  I am an Instructional Resource Coach by day (think librarian and technology coach mixed in to one job) at the elementary level.  I absolutely love to read and to help teachers and students integrate technology into their learning so it’s the perfect job for me!

I began using Cricut for my school bulletin boards in 2008.  My husband bought me a Cricut Expression for my birthday that year and it is still my favorite machine!  I also have the Imagine, as well as the Cuttlebug, YourStory Photo, and Yudu (still in the box – yikes!).

My absolute favorite crafty thing to do is to make layouts that tell my family’s story. I also make cards, projects for school, gifts, etc., and I dabble in altering things.  I enjoy the time I get to spend crafting, as it is very relaxing for me and truly cheaper than I imagine therapy is!  My style is what I call “basic”.  To me that means I stay pretty middle of the road with my scrapping.  I don’t venture off into grunge or vintage or steam punk.  I don’t use a ton of one certain thing and hang my hat on it.  I am certainly not a professional but I do my best and love to share it with others!  I hope you will enjoy the creations that I share here on the CricutDIVA Design Team!

CricutDIVA Design Team Announcement

I am so happy to finally be able to announce the design team!!!

We have a lot of WOW projects in store for you. Please subscribe and then hold on to your seats because we are going to blow you away with the beautiful things we DIVAs can create with our Cricuts.

Our team

Lori Apgar

pinkbydesign kids march 12

I am married and have three dirty, stinky boys aged 22, 18 and 7. We live in Nebraska, just outside of Omaha, in a town called Papillion. I am a baseball mom and spend most of my spring and summer sitting in the bleachers cheering loudly!!! My husband has coached each of our boys at some point for a total of 16 years.

I started crafting when I was young in 4H, but I really started paper crafting when my oldest was little. I made cards for a while and started scrapbooking when he was seven and the middle son was two. Neither really appreciated my books and my interest fizzled a little bit.

Right about the time the Cricut came out, I found out we were expecting again. I have been going crazy ever since–mainly scrapbooking, but I also make cards, gift bags and home décor projects. I sold my baby bug and bought an Expression.

I currently have my Expression, a Gypsy and the Imagine. My creativity skyrocketed when I realized the potential my Gypsy had!!! It also helps that my youngest loves his “chapter” books (scrapbooks).

I dabble in jewelry making, crocheting, knitting and painting, but my passion is paper!

Mary Montecalvo

Mary Montecalvo_real image

My name is Mary Montecalvo and I have been a wife for 40 years, mother of five and grandmother (Mema) to eight. I live  in the small town of Sutton, Massachusetts in New England, right in the central part of the state.

I got started in paper crafting back in 2007. My daughters bought me my first Cricut (the Baby Bug) for Christmas and they unleashed my creativity!

Wow! It is so hard to pick what I enjoy the most because I enjoy it all! I guess I would have to say I enjoy layouts since they spark wonderful memories and next would be mixed media for home décor projects.

I have the original Expression, an Expression 2, Cricut Cake, Imagine, and Gypsy in addition to my original Cricut. I also have the Yudu, Card Maker and Your Story.

I also enjoy sewing. Currently, I am designing doll clothes for the AG dolls for my grandaughters and have even found that my Cricut comes in handy for making embellishments!

Please visit my blog for more info.

Beth Mooney

beth mooney_real image

My name is Beth Mooney and I live with my significant other, Jason. We have three great sons named Jake, Chad and Blake, a wonderful daughter-in-law named Jesie, and two granddaughters, Addy, who is five, and Taylor, who is four. They are usually the subjects of my layouts.

I live in Clarksville, Arkansas

I got started in scrapbooking on a rainy fall afternoon in 1999. My cousin did scrapbooking and had told me about it. At the time, I did not want another hobby. I’m very crafty and already had lots of things going, but I had nothing to do and went to WalMart and bought some paper, adhesive, stickers, decorative scissors and an album. The horrors of those 1st pages!!

At Christmas, I started making cards and found that they are so much fun! My main thing is still layouts, but since I bought my E2, I have created several home projects in addition to cards and pages. I like to consider myself well rounded, but when I get a little bored doing one thing, I try something else for a bit so I don’t burn out.

I have the E2, a personal Cricut, that I keep in our RV so I can craft while camping, and 2 Imagine machines.

I also crochet a bit, refinish furniture and decorate wreaths. It seems like everything revolves around paper crafts now though!

Sierra Heath

sierra heath_real image

My name is Sierra Heath and I am from Virginia.

I am a stay at home mom to a wonderful little girl. I also have the most wonderful and supportive husband that makes sure I get time to craft. Being creative is my therapy.

I have been scrapbooking since 2006. When I started out I was making 6×6 albums for our family of our wedding with a ruler and exacto knife. My best friend then introduced me to the paper and all the different supplies that I could use. Within a year I was hooked and got a Cricut by the following Christmas. I now own over 30 cartridges and have made over 10 scrapbooks. I want to keep expanding my crafting talents.

My favorite type of paper crafting is making layouts. I love preserving memories so I can share them with my family and friends. I also love making them for gifts. Some of my favorite “can’t live without” embellishments are circle brads, paper flowers, rhinestones and ribbon.

For my layouts, I use a Cricut Expression 2, the Cricut Craft Room and the Cuttlebug.

I also enjoy furniture painting, decoupage, card making and drawing.

My blog is at http://creativemindedmomma.wordpress.com/

Ann Bacon

ann bacon_real image

I have been married for 26 years to my wonderful husband and I’m the mother of two grown children. We live in Las Vegas, Nevada where the summers are really HOT! I work as an Instructional Coach in a local elementary school. With 30+ teachers and over 750 students, my days are busy and never boring!

I got my start in paper-crafting in 1999 when I was invited to a D.O.T.S® party. I was in love with rubber stamps and paper! I hosted my own party, the company became Close To My Heart®, and I became an Independent Consultant. The rest is history.

I love making cards, scrapbook layouts and all sorts of 3-D items. I currently use my Cuttlebug and Expression in my crafting.

In addition to paper-crafting I enjoy reading, gardening, and haunting thrift stores, antique shops, and estate sales. I love finding treasures that can be refinished and/or repurposed.

I am excited to be a part of the CricutDIVA Design Team and hope you will stop by my blog to see my latest creations and projects!

Please welcome this fabulous team and subscribe to our blog so you don’t miss any of the fun projects we have lined up for you.

CricutDIVA Design Team Announcement

I am so happy to finally announce that I am starting up a CricutDIVA Design Team. But this won’t be just any design team … it will be a very active and involved design team with many members with varying degrees of experience.

cricutdiva

We will have helper bees to help the less-experienced team members and lots of helpful information. We will also have guest designers and angel designers to fill in if someone is unable to post as planned.

If you have never set up or published on a blog, don’t worry. We will be able to help you.

If you are chosen to be on the design team, you will be expected to prepare at least one blog post per month, but you can publish more often if you like, depending on availability.

Those of you who are on other design teams may participate as long as you can meet the commitments you sign up for on this design team.

If you would like to apply to be considered for the first 6-month term of the CricutDIVA Design Team, there will be certain requirements.

  1. You must have a blog. You cannot expect to be part of a design team that is based on members posting on their blogs if you don’t have a blog.
  2. You must have a Cricut machine. Any size or model is fine, but you must have a machine and cartridges to cut out your images. Having access to a Cricut may not be enough unless you can be absolutely sure that you will always be able to make the projects you need for your posts.
  3. You will be expected to follow a prescribed format for your posts.
  4. You will be expected to use clear pictures.
  5. You must be positive.
  6. You must have a helpful nature.

Submissions:

To be on the design team as a designer (layouts, cards or other types of projects):

–          Submit two projects that would be representative of the types of projects you would post as a design team member.

To apply as a helper:
