Surf’s Up 12×12 Layout

Happy First day of Summer Everyone! Do you all have your summer bucket list written out? Well, I know my daughter and her friends are going to be returning the the beach to hit the waves again. Last summer I took them to Carpentaria Beach were the city has classes that run all summer long. The Layout below is of first class they took last year. It’s a simple layout but I like that I got 7 pictures on one page.

I used the Life is a Beach cartridge I used the surfboard, the surf’s up phrase and the seagulls. I like using the Craft Room to layout my images so that I only make one run though to cut all my images. This is how I position the images.

Screen Shot 2013-06-20 at 7.35.10 PM

The sizes of the cuts are

Surfboard 4.375(W)x 5.569(H)

Surfboard layer 4.083(W)x 5.333(H)

Seagulls 3.847(W)x 2.833(H) 2 times

Surf’sUp Phrase 3.847(W)x 3.653(H)

Surf’sUp Phrase layer .917(W)x3.314

and this is how they looked when the cut was finished

I didn’t like the way the strips looked on the surfboard so I ended up flipping the image and I actually liked the patterned so much better. I used paper from the Simple Stories called I (Heart) Summer, DayDream and Feel the Breeze plus some Bazzill cardstock.

I ended up using some of Tim Holtz idea-ology Remnant rubs-words plus I added a border to the smaller photos, journaling block and

to the phrase with a black pen. I also added some enamel dots from My Mind’s eye from Michael’s.

Thank you for stopping by today I hope you all have a super fun and safe summer.

My Photogenic Nephew

This layout is of my nephew when he was 2 years old.

I am way behind in my scrapbooking because I only started this hobby about 3 years ago. My oldest is now 35, my daughter is 25, and my nephew and niece are both nearly 20 so I have a lot of catching up to do.

This shouldn’t be a problem because I have plenty of supplies and enjoy this hobby immensely!

For this layout, I cut rectangles and distressed all the edges. Then I turned down two corners and held them in place with brads from my stash.

The camera is a MFT die.

I cut the word “My” in the title with the Type Candy cartridge, joining the letters together in Cricut Craft Room. The word “nephew” was cut with the Tiny Treasures cartridge. I used some Making Memories felt letters for the word “photogenic”.

I stitched around the edges of the layout with some straight and zig zag stitches.

Below is a video that describes the layout in detail:

Here is a cartridge review video on the Tiny Treasures cartridge:

Grandparents

Grandparents hold a special place in their grandchildren’s heart, from the very first sight. In this two-page layout I wanted to capture the essence of the first meeting. My favorite picture is the candid shot of my dad hold his first grandchild for the first time. It was such a special moment. You could feel the love in the room as we introduced her to the family. It is amazing what you can capture with a picture phone, when a camera is not available.

Process:

I don’t use sketches often, but here is my process. I based my design on the quote “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart” ~Winnie the Pooh~ from there I knew I wanted to cut out Pooh (since he said the quote), Tigger (my favorite) and Eeyore (husbands favorite).

Eeyore

I divided the paper in half for the first page of the layout, then the second page was divided into fourths.I love the polka dot paper from The Paper Company, I wanted to add some fun color to the pages. To divide the secitions with Bazzil Double Scoop Mint Chip paper and Spool O’ Ribbon in Spring Green. The pictures were made to look they were hanging up, I used Doodle Bug sugar coated brads in yellow, and brown embroidery floss.

Hanging Picture Look

Tip: When adding embroidery floss to your photographs, use your Cricut tool kit and punch holes where you want to pull the string through first. Then use an embroidery needle to pull the floss through, tie it in 3 or 4 knots before pulling the tail through to the backside and tape it down. When putting it on the brad wrap the floss around the brad once so it will stay tight. I love how this turned out.
